Clervaux celebrates the 80ᵉ anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge

December 14 and 15: a weekend rich in history and Christmas magic

On the weekend of December 14 and 15, 2024, Clervaux is preparing to honor the memory of one of the most significant events in its history: the Battle of the Bulge, of which the village was one of the main theaters.

Organized in partnership between the commune of Clervaux and the Cercle d’Études sur la Bataille des Ardennes (CEBA), these commemorations promise an exceptional program, combining history, culture and a fairytale atmosphere thanks to the Christmas festivities.

A high point

The return of the Sherman tank to Clervaux

A major historical symbol, the Sherman M4 A3 (76) W tank, which played a key role in the Ardennes offensive, makes its grand return to Clervaux after four years of painstaking restoration.

Its official presentation on Saturday December 14 will be one of the highlights of the festivities, allowing visitors to relive a key moment in the Second World War.

Saturday, 14th December 2024

10:00 AM – 5:30 PM: Free entry to the Battle Museum and Clervaux Castle.
4:00 PM – Place du Marché:
- Official Ceremony with musical accompaniment.
- Speeches and presentation of the restored Sherman M4 A3 (76) W tank.
- CEBA information stand and complimentary Vin d’Honneur.
6:00 PM – Cultural Center of Clervaux Castle:
- Thematic Conference on the Battle of the Bulge by Dr. Walter S. Zapotoczny Jr., historian of the 28th US Infantry Division.

Sunday, 15th December 2024

10:00 AM – 5:30 PM: Free entry to the Battle Museum and Clervaux Castle.
11:00 AM – Cultural Center of Clervaux Castle:
- Conference by Lieutenant Manoni from the Luxembourg Army.
From 12:00 PM – Clervaux Castle Site:
- Food and drink stands by CEBA.
- CEBA information stand.
2:30 PM – Place du Marché:
- Historical presentation of the Sherman tank: “A Journey Through the Past.”
4:00 PM – GI Monument:
- Commemorative Ceremony featuring Clervaux Municipal Harmony Band.
